Greetings from the Order of the Eastern Star;
Spring will soon be here we can all hope!!! We should be very thankful for making it through this winter, if it ever ends. The weather has been a real issue up to this point. I am sad to say a couple of our meetings had to be canceled due to lack of quorum due to the snow and cold. Buckner Chapter #280 has had many blessings to be thankful for throughout our 100 plus year history. Time is flying by fast as we are remaining busy. Buckner Chapter received two honors at Grand Chapter this year. We were awarded the WGM & WGP 2009 Chapter Achievement Award and Sister Lou Yates was recognized for her dedication to the Order by receiving the Grand Representative Appointment of Nebraska in Missouri. We are so very happy for and proud that she is a member at Buckner Chapter. We should also feel very lucky to have installed all 18 officers this year. That is not the case for several chapters in our area. We would love to see the members of the chapter who haven’t been to a meeting in a while. We have several prospective members we are hoping will find friendships within Buckner Chapter and make their decision to join soon. Buckner Chapter has the prospect of growing this year if we remain diligent in our efforts to share our great Order and the friendships that form its foundation with Our Lodge brothers, their families and our friends within our community.
General Grand Chapter has enacted a change that could have profound effect on us as a chapter. They have made a change in those who are eligible for membership in our Order. We can now initiate Aunts of Master Masons. If anyone has a possible new member for our chapter please let me or any of the officers know. We look forward to having new members in our Order. In fact we need new members to help us grow and continue as a chapter. We have had several meeting with only the minimum number required to open. Won’t you come and help us make our chapter better. The WGM, Sister Amy Tripi and WGP, Brother Leonard Stephenson, want us to try and increase our membership and the attendance at our meetings. So I have decided to ask several tough questions. My request for you is a request for self evaluation. Answer these simple questions. For the members who haven’t been to a meeting in a while, 1.) Why don’t you come anymore? 2.) What do we, as a chapter, need to do, to get you to come to at least four meetings per year? To Our Lodge Brothers: 1.) What can we do so you and your family members will join Eastern Star? We try and do our part to support the building fund and Lodge, won’t you support us with your membership. I would like to know your answers to these questions if you feel like sharing them. You can email them to me at mogoofyfun@earthink.net or call me at 816-582-8257. We want to change if necessary and evolve into a better chapter. We just need your help and support. All new beginnings come from life formed by the lives and experiences of the past and present. We want to grow! Won’t you come and join us for this adventure. I know ritual hasn’t changed but with the influx of new or returning members the personality of an organization can change. Won’t you come and get reacquainted with our beloved chapter, who has the heritage of many generations as a foundation and the imagination of the new members to sustain us for the future. Besides WE CAN HAVE FUN TOGETHER!!!!!
We had our Official Visit by our District Deputy Grand Matron, Sister Nancy Thomas on January 26th, 2010. We had a good time and performed our Ritual work in RARE form with the help of several pro-tems from the District. Our Friendship Night will be April 13, 2010. We will be honoring Oak Grove Chapter #407, Higginsville Chapter #477 and Ivy Leaf Chapter #215. We will have the Christian Praise Band “The Quick and Dead” as entertainment during dinner starting at 6:30. The Officers would love to see as many of our own members there as possible, so mark your calendars.
The District’s School of Instruction is this weekend on Saturday, February 20, 2010 starting at 11:30 am with lunch. Our District Spring Reception is planned for April 24, 2010. We hope each of you will help make these a success as this will be the last year as the 59th District. Due to redistricting taking effect in 2011 we will combine with 3 of the chapters in the 22nd District and form the “New” 11th District. The 59th District has received many compliments from all across the State for our Inspections and Receptions in the past. Please come and help us make these last two the best they can be.
Ways and Means continues to be a focus with the chapter this year. We help the Brothers of Lodge with the Sunday and other dinners that they are doing for the building fund. This keeps us from having to pay rent. We should feel very privileged in that we don’t have to pay rent like most chapters. Even though the dinners are a lot of hard work we enjoy working with our Brothers.
In closing the Officers would like you to remember “So many things are nicer when you share them with a friend...especially when the friend is you”, Thank You for being Our Friend.
Eastern Star Love,
Sherry Wilcher,
Worthy Matron
